Silver exhibition Waddesdon Manor

Our society’s silver anniversary year coincides with the opportunity to view George 3rd’s spectacular silver dinner service. It was commissioned in 1774 and is on display at Waddesdon Manor. Some 120 pieces from the service made in Hanover and Paris are on show in the white Drawing room. It is the largest surviving tranche of a Franco German commission and one of only a handful of neoclassical services to have survived anywhere in the world. Saved in 1803 from Napoleon’s advance to Hanover, 70 crates were evacuated to London via St Petersburg taking 5 months to reach safety.

Come and learn more on a 2-hour curator led tour of the ground floor of Waddesdon Manor and admire this exceptional and tangible piece of history,

The £20 tour fee includes entry to the gardens, grounds and aviary.

Use the Manor’s public car park and shuttle bus to rendezvous on the restaurant terrace outside the house at 10.30 am for tour start at 11am on 17th May.

Please note: The shuttle bus is now chargeable (£5). It is a 15-minute walk to the Manor from the car park.

We will not receive tickets or a booking number. Group members can inform the box office at the manor that they are part of a special visit organised by Michael Shrive.
